Gyrolimba is a motion controlled performance system built on a modified kalimba, enhancing the instrument with real time gestural sensing. This system creates a two way interaction between performer and instrument, turning the kalimba into an active partner in performance.
A built-in gyroscope continuously tracks tilt as the performer moves the instrument. The motion data is streamed into a Max patch and mapped to sound processing parameters, allowing movement to shape musical behavior.
Eight vibration motors embedded above the kalimba are controlled through two onboard knobs, which adjust vibration intensity and the number of motors activated at once.
